Shelter
Éva and Laci have built a small, private shelter in Debrecen. For many years, they have been dedicating themselves tirelessly to animals in need in their region. About ten years ago, they began transforming an old farm step by step into a safe haven for abandoned and abused animals.
With simple means, lots of heart and tireless effort, the shelter of the Puli Animal Protection Association was created.
Around 100 dogs are cared for daily by Éva, Laci and their dedicated volunteers. They care lovingly for the animals, rescue street dogs, take them to veterinarians, provide emergency assistance and handle all organizational tasks related to daily shelter operations. Additionally, the team is also involved in educational work – in schools and kindergartens, they teach children how to treat animals with respect.
In eastern Hungary, near the Ukrainian and Romanian borders, animal protection is unfortunately still not a priority for many people. Many animals are abandoned, abused, neglected, turned over to kill stations or kept on chains.
The small team on the ground fights every day with limited means for the welfare of the animals. They conduct sterilization campaigns, care for street dogs and try to make the world a little better for each individual animal.
