Foster
For dogs that urgently need to leave the shelter
Not everyone can give an animal a permanent home – but in the area of emergency foster care, even a temporary placement can save lives. As an emergency foster family, you provide a dog whose stay at the shelter is severely affecting his physical or mental health with short-term protection, stability and security.
The Puli Animal Protection Association is continuously looking for loving and responsible emergency foster families in Germany and Austria who are willing to temporarily provide a safe environment for a particularly urgent emergency dog.
What does it mean to be an emergency foster family?
As an emergency foster family, you take a shelter dog into your care who urgently needs to leave the shelter, or placed dogs who need to leave their home temporarily for various reasons. The duration of stay can range from a few weeks to several months or longer – depending on the individual needs and the timing of successful placement.
Our placement team will support you throughout the entire process.
Foster Home Requirements
carefully acclimating the dog to your daily life
learning or refreshing basic behaviors (e.g. housetraining, leash training, being alone)

possibility to take in a dog at short notice
Until the dog is permanently placed, you bear responsibility for your foster dog – of course with the full support of our team.

How Do I Become an Emergency Foster Family?
If you would like to temporarily provide a loving home for a shelter dog in acute need, we look forward to hearing from you. The process is as follows:
personal care by a team member
