How an Adoption Works

1

Animal Selection

On our website you will find dogs and cats that are currently looking for a loving forever home. In our shelter, many wonderful mixed breeds and other animals are waiting to be discovered.

Thanks to photos and videos, you can get a clear picture of which of our animals best suits you and your family.

2

Get in Touch

Has an animal touched your heart? Then we ask you to fill out our self-assessment form. After that, one of our helpers will contact you as soon as possible.

Our placement team takes time to talk with you about the selected animal as well as your living and life situation, to jointly determine whether you and your desired animal are really a good match. Should it turn out that the chemistry might not be ideal, we would be happy to recommend another animal from our care that might suit you better.

3

Preparation

Before an adoption can be completed, some preparations may be necessary. Depending on the type and breed of your future animal, this may include, for example, cat-proofing windows and balconies or – for dogs – completing a dog handler's license.

The basic supplies such as food, bowls, sleeping places, transport box, harness and toys should also be ready before your new family member moves in.

In parallel, we prepare all required documents on our side, including the EU pet passport.

We hand over our animals, unless otherwise agreed:

neutered/spayed

microchipped

vaccinated

dewormed and treated against parasites

with EU pet passport

with safety harness

Dogs from around 9 months of age are additionally tested for heartworms

If neutering/spaying is not possible at the time of adoption due to age or health reasons, please discuss the appropriate timing with your veterinarian after adoption.

4

Adoption

Once all requirements are met, arrange a time for adoption with your responsible contact person.

The animals can – depending on arrangement – be brought to a fixed meeting point.

If you wish, you also have the option to personally pick up your new family member at the shelter in Debrecen.

5

Aftercare

Our animals are very close to our hearts even after their placement. Therefore, our team from the Puli Animal Protection Association Debrecen is also available to you after adoption with advice and support.

If you have questions, need help, or want tips about your four-legged friend and living together, you can always contact your trusted contact person.
