Giardia
Giardia are single-celled parasites that can cause severe diarrhea, especially in young animals or dogs with weakened immune systems. Transport, the associated stress, and the adjustment to a new home can cause symptoms that had already subsided in puppies to reappear. Typical signs include diarrhea (possibly with blood), lethargy, and loss of appetite.
Because a puppy’s immune system is not yet fully developed, Giardia infections can be more frequent and more severe in young dogs.
Please do not be alarmed—Giardia infestations are easily treatable and usually brought under control quickly.
If you suspect Giardia, we recommend consulting your veterinarian, who will initiate appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment.
Finally, we would like to recommend the so-called Moro’s carrot soup. It can have a supportive effect in cases of Giardia and is also a well-established home remedy for diarrhea in both dogs and humans. For dogs, it is advisable to add some meat to the soup.
